Hey, hey Kenarry Readers! Trish here with a three-ingredient easy edible slime recipe just in time for summer. The truth is that my little guy does not need the excuse of a season to make slime. In fact, I am a bit surprised at how long this “slime” phase has lasted.
We have been making DIY slime without glue at our house for three years now and it is rare that we repeat a tutorial or recipe. Of course, that is fine by me! I happen to love this phase and the smiles it brings my little guy which are especially big when the slime is edible and made from Starburst candy.
a few tips Before we get to the easy Edible slime recipe!
- Wash those little hands! Clean hands mean that this easy edible slime really is safe to eat.
- Paper bowls can be microwaved! And paper bowls make for the easiest edible slime clean-up; therefore, if you happen to have bowls on hand from the last party you hosted I highly recommend you use them.
- Plastic knives are just as awesome as paper bowls! They make fantastic disposable spatulas.
- Use cooking spray. If you do not have paper goods on hand or prefer to use a pyrex bowl and kitchen spatula my tip is to add a light layer of cooking spray on both before using them.

Kitchen Supplies Needed:
- Parchment Paper
- Measuring Cups
- Microwave Safe Bowlor Paper Bowl
- Spatulaor Plastic Knife
- Cooking Spray, if desired

This recipe makes about 2 cups of edible slime. Change it to make more or less, depending on your needs.
Edible slime-making tips
Here are a few things I learned when I made the edible slime. I hope these tips help you too!
Prepare Candy & Space TO Create easy edible Slime
Before you even begin to make the slime, you’ll need to prepare the table.
You need to unwrap all the candies and sort them.
Then, tape down some parchment paper. If you don’t tape it down, it will move and make a mess.
Melt Candy in the microwave
Starburst candy melts easily in the microwave. It should only take about 30 seconds or so.
You can also melt the candy on the stove, but that’s messier.
Let the candy cool completely
You are going to be stretching and mixing it by hand, so please, be smart. Let the candy cool before you start messing with it. It can burn you.
Mix it up
This is the fun part (and the messiest step of all). Knead the powdered sugar mixture into the slime until it’s your desired consistency.
How to Store Homemade slime
You can store this on your countertop in a sealed bag or container. The longer it is ignored, the less pliable it will be.
So, when your child wants to play with it again, heat it up for about 15 seconds. If it’s too sticky, add a sprinkle of corn starch to it. If it’s too dry, dab a little coconut oil into it.

Supplies
- 1 bag Starburst
- 1/4 cup Corn Starch
- 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar
Instructions
Begin by unwrapping all of the Starburst candies then separate them by color. Next, prepare a space for mixing the edible slime by placing a sheet of parchment paper onto a flat surface; countertop, cookie sheet, cutting board or table. Then measure 1/4 cup of both corn starch and powdered sugar before pouring them both onto the parchment paper. Use your fingers or a spoon to mix the two powders together until they are well blended.
Pour one color of Starburst into a microwave safe bowl (or paper bowl) then heat it in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Remove the bowl from the microwave then stir it with a spatula (or plastic knife/spoon). If all of the candies do not melt and blend when you are stirring the gooey Starburst return the bowl to the microwave for an additional 15 seconds then stir it again. After the goo is smooth allow it to rest in the bowl for 4-5 minutes or until the melted candy is cool to touch.
Once the candy has cooled enough to touch it with your fingers pour it onto the prepared powder ingredients. Use your hands to press the powders into the Starburst and continue to add corn starch and powdered sugar to the melted candy until the desired consistency for your Starburst slime is achieved and it is no longer sticky.
Repeat steps one thru three for the remaining Starburst flavors. There will be plenty of corn starch and powdered sugar for all of the colors of candy then squish, mold and even eat the edible slime.
If your edible slime remained on a clean surface during play and you would like to preserve it for another time simply place each color in a plastic bag or sealed container. When you are ready for more slime fun heat each flavor in a microwaveable safe bowl for 15-20 seconds then allow it to cool until it is ok for little hands to touch it. If it is too sticky add a dash of corn starch or powdered sugar and if it is too dry add a tiny bit of coconut oil.

How do you give edible slime as party favors?
Wash out some glass or plastic baby food containers and store the slime in them. Then, you can hand out the small containers as party favors.
What can you use instead of cornstarch?
If you don’t have cornstarch, you can use flour, arrowroot, potato starch, tapioca, and even instant mashed potato granules. The instant mashed potato flakes might make the texture kind funny, so use it as a last resort.
What do I do if it dries out?
First, try to microwave it and see if that helps. If it is still too dry, you can add a little bit of coconut oil. That should make it nice and pliable again.
