Was just listening to the Ute and Vandal interview Jeff Choate. And oh man is he fired up! He said he is an Idaho guy, taught and coached at BSU for many years, said that he didnt even get an interview for the BSU job aftwr Harsin and Avalos left and it was a tough pill to swallow so now he is a Nevada guy.
He also told the Ute and Vandal that he tells his players that they (prater and ballgame) are irrelevant and that they have no idea what kind of talent is on that or any other team. This was after they asked him if nevada will be better than their last place preseason rankings. Cracked me up and makes me nervous at the same time.
I am a big fan of Coach Choate and talked to him on a plane ride couple months after the 2006 fiesta bowl and he was flying home from vegas aftwr recruiting Billy Winn. Hell of a recruiter and motivator. I absolutely hate that he is at Nevada.

Hopefully we can steal him or he can make his way home some day.

You can stop being nervous. The talent deficit is much larger than Choate let's on.

Not worried about this season per say, but if he stays there at least 3-4 years he will build a scary team and man youknow he wants to beat us bad. He is from idaho, his family lives in Idaho and man, maybe we should have at least given him an Interview out of respect? The guy recruited a ton of amazing players and coached on some amazing BSU teams.

Agreed. People like Choate have a certain drive in them that elevate themselves to a whole different level.

His coaching speaks for itself. He can coach a 1 star recruit and have him look more like a 3 star recruit after he coaches them up. He is a very passionate and hard nose coach. Players who can't keep up with his coaching will weed themselves out.

A lover scorned. I've always liked Choate. I'm sure he's got us circled on his calendar.

The MW has some good coaches this upcoming season. Hopefully coaches like Choate and Mendenhall can get their programs humming.

I like Coach Choate.. and in hindsight, he should've gotten a shot at the job over Andy. That said.. without even discussing SD, there's nothing he can do with Nevada even with all his passion and energy. Players play.. and Nevada ain't got players.

He’s a spurned and pissed-off lover. Very dangerous but he’s coaching in Reno so there’s not too much he can do.
Reno for gawd’s.

Love Choate for calling out the KTIK crew (and he's right that neither really do their homework--and that's especially true of Prater). Norvell gutted Nevada (well, to be fair, Nevada wasn't putting bank in their program) with his departure. Choate's challenge is that Odom has brought UNLV to life, and that will make any recovery for Nevada all the more challenging in drawing in recruits.
It is a bit of news, though, that he didn't even get interviewed by Boise State. Can definitely see how that's struck in his craw. We'll have a quick measure of Choate's resurrection of the Wolf Pack program as they play Georgia Southern in Reno the week after we play the Eagles. It would serve the conference very well if he can bring back Nevada to some relevancy.

I mean….Choate’s situation sounds like he didn’t get a date with his high-school crush so he married the ugliest girl in the school….

The road to being Boise State’s HC does not run through Reno.

If he didn't get an interview twice when the job was open, that's pretty low rent on Dickey's part.

Yeah i absolutely hate that he is at Reno. Any other school besides UofI or Reno. They are a sinking ship bound for rhe Big Sky and long tome hated rival of BSU with so many bad blood memories.
I feel for Coach Choate and it will suck to see him on the other side of the Blue late this season, and that will be after a very long and hard first season in Reno. I hope he can beat UNLV, that would set him up right with the fans there if he can just beat UNLV.

Nevada may not have talent, but they’ll play hard under Choate, and teams that play hard are dangerous.

If Choate is relevant at UNR, he will bounce to the first big school that offers him.

Yeah.. but if you don't have any other takers, you gotta go with what will have ya. Plus.. if he turns Reno around to respectability, there's a P4 program likely waiting with open arms.

If Choate does well at Nevada, and TCU does badly the next few years, does he go to TCU? Does he go from being Nevada's 2nd General to Pantsman 2 - the sequel?

He's 53 years old. Unless he does an amazing job in his first two years I doubt he gets a P4 job, certainly not as a head coach.

I think BSU fans are seriously overrating Choate. If he was worthy of being considered for the BSU's HC position let alone actually getting it, then why was it so hard for him to get any FBS HC job? If he were such a good HC I doubt it would have taken him so long to get a job at at backwater program that only won 2 games the previous season.

You think 53 is old in the Coaching profession? Go look at the recent P4 hires.. those aren't a bunch of spring chicks getting gigs.
