Korean Beef Stir Fry is a spicy korean beef that is mix with gochujang paste, soy sauce, sesame oil and other herbs. It is easy to make and it perfect to eat with rice.
Korean food is one of my favorite cuisines since it is healthy and spicy. I love spicy food and anything spicy is always the best. In a Korean restaurant, I ate a Korean beef dish which is one of the best dishes I have ever ate.
Also, I noticed they use different type of beef that is commonly found in Korean cuisines. For instance, they usually serve a Korean beef belly that has fat content which is commonly used during grilling or barbecue. This kind of meat are mostly found in most Korean buffet restaurants.
Because I love Korean food, I will be making my version of Spicy Korean Beef Stir Fry Recipe using the Korean beef belly.
The Recipe Ingredients
There are several ingredient to cook this delicious Korean beef recipe:
First of all, I am using a thinly sliced beef with fat contents. Using a beef with fats is more tender and juicy. Also, it is easier and faster to cook using this kind of meat.
Second, I am using soy sauce, vinegar, and sesame oil in this dish. This will give a nice flavor of the beef. Thirdly, I am using brown sugar since this will balance the saltiness from the soy sauce. They make the taste of the beef really good.
Fourthly, to give a nice spiciness of my Korean beef stir fry, I am using a gochujang paste and green chilies. Gochujang paste is a Korean sweet and spicy red pepper paste which is mainly made from red chili powder, mejo powder, and glutinous rice. Furthermore, it is healthy and nutritious which is rich in vitamin and antioxidant . This is a must ingredient if you want to have a spicy and savory taste. These red paste are sold in any Korean grocery store.
Lastly, I am using common herbs like garlic, onion, and vegetable cooking oil for stir-frying the beef. The garlic will be used to marinate the beef, while the onion will be used during cooking.
What kind of Beef do I use?
When cooking this recipe, there is a specific type of beef I use for my spicy Korean beef. I am using either a thin-sliced Korean beef brisket strip called Chadolbaegi or a Samgyeopsal beef belly that I bought in a Korean grocery store.
If you can't find this type of beef, you can use any beef belly or beef brisket you like. Just make sure they are thinly sliced before stir-frying the meat. In my experience, I tried both of them, and it wouldn't make any difference since they both taste really good.
Tip: When stir frying pure beef with no fats, cook it a little longer to make sure the meat will be tender.
What do I eat with this Spicy Korean Beef Recipe?
Firstly, in Korean food, healthy side dishes are always included in the meal. I highly suggest to eat this spicy korean beef with Korean Bean Sprouts.
Second, this dish is commonly serve with rice. Of course, in Asian cuisines, rice is a very important starch in their diet. This is true because I am half Asian myself. I love eating this Korean Beef Stir Fry with rice- either steamed white rice or fried rice. In my experience, this goes well with myKimchi Fried Rice Recipewhich is a very tasty fried rice.
Alternatively, this can be eaten with lettuce instead of rice. I know that sounds weird, but it fit perfectly when eating meat with lettuce. I was ignorant before, but when I tried doing that, I find it delicious. All you have to do is just wrap the lettuce around the beef before putting in your mouth. If you are very curious, you can try that in anyKorean restaurants.
Step by Step Instruction
First of all, add the sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, grated / chopped garlic, sesame oil and gochujang paste in a small bowl, and make into a sauce by mixing them.
Transfer the sauce mixture into the beef in a large bowl. Use your hand or spoon to mix it well. Make sure you marinate it for 30 minutes to 1 hour to help the beef absorb the flavor.
After it is marinated, add vegetable cooking oil in the pan, and wait till it become hot. Add the chopped onion and give it a quick stir for few minutes or till it become light brown.
Later, add the chopped green chilies and continue stirring them. Add the marinated beef brisket or belly in the pan, and give it a quick stir. Stir Fry the beef for 5 minutes or till the beef is fully cooked in medium to high heat.
Once you are done, garnished it with the leaves of the spring onion. Serve it with rice or lettuce if you like and you are done. If you will like to know the full instruction of the dish, here is the recipe card below:
