LU Design Build

10. Simply Surrounded

In this Wildwood, Missouri, family room, designer Jennifer Chapman of LU Design Build surrounded the fireplace with blue glass tile in a herringbone pattern and installed a simple large-format porcelain tile on the hearth in front of it. She flanked the fireplace with white Shaker-style built-in cabinetry and connected the two sides with a custom mantel. The design puts the focus on the flickering fire and the television above it, which can be enjoyed from any seat in the room.

6. Repeat and Reward

A built-in storage and display niche mirrors the arched shape of an open doorway in this Houston living room, which is part of a whole-house remodel by Penberthy Custom Builders. The blue wallpaper backing the niche coordinates with two skirted armchairs and a coffee-table-topped blue ottoman in front of them. And the armchairs’ pattern mimics the wavy frames of the facing chairs and the arms of the chandelier above.

Etch Design Group

5. Warm and Welcoming

In her own Lakeway, Texas, home, Jessica Nelson of Etch Design Group outfitted the living room with fluted built-ins that match the base of the island in the adjacent kitchen.
