I’m so excited to join in on a $100 Room Challenge this month and create a laundry room makeover on a budget! Today I’ll show you my plans for the space and how I’m going to transform our laundry room.

I am so excited to join in on this fall’s $100 room challenge with Erin over at Lemons, Lavender and Laundry. A couple years ago I joined her challenge in September and gave our laundry room a much needed makeover!

We have oak cabinets above our washer and dryer that could use a coat of paint to update them. I’m also planning to add pulls to the cabinets by using a drilling guide and our power drill and drill bit set. This will modernize the cabinets on a budget and completely change the look of them!

I’ll be adding a shallow wood shelf beneath the cabinets using some wood and metal brackets. Along with back wall behind the door I’ll add board and batten with a peg rack. These additions will add some decorative storage and functionality to the laundry room. It’s always fun to add decorative touches to some open shelving! [ faux plants, I’m looking at you!]

Another DIY project for my small laundry room will be to create an accent wall by painting a pattern to look like wallpaper. I really wanted to add some peel and stick wallpaper as an accent wall, but it would put me over budget. So I had to get creative with my solution! I’ve been loving sponge painted walls like this one from The Blooming Nest, and I’d love to do something similar with my own spin on it! This will make a big impact on a small budget.

Here is my inspiration mood board for my laundry room makeover DIY. I’m going to be adding some softer wood accents, blacks, and greens to the room!

Laundry Room Design

I’ll be using some leftover paint on the laundry room cabinets to help save money! We purchased some paint for a project in our living room a couple months ago and have more than enough left for this project. For the hardware I will use some extra silver drawer pulls that I had purchased second-hand last year. I’ll give them a coat of black spray paint to update the color and look!

To decorate the updated laundry room I will “borrow” some art and frames from other rooms in my house. I have plans to make some DIY art for the room as well. Next I’ll install a drying rack that I had in my previous house for some laundry room storage.

I plan to replace the fluorescent light and install a more modern light fixture. We also desperately needed a new modern laundry hamper that would fit the space well, and I found the perfect one on Amazon! This one will fit right next to the washing machine for easy access.

For the wall behind the door, I’ll be adding some board and batten to add character and interest to the space. This easy board and batten DIY project is super straightforward and will create some fun storage with some pegs added to the top portion of the board. We have done board and batten a couple times already and plan to do it again in other areas of our new home! I’ll also create a small ledge on top so that I can lean some art prints and picture frames above it.
